Going through the motions of wanting to take a gigantic leap of faith and follow my very passionate curiosity, or continue to work the cookie cutter that I’ve essentially asked for, for as long as I could remember. That is the dilemma.
Happy New Year folks, another year, another dollar, another dream, another holla. It’s time to put those New Years resolutions into motion and kick some ass. But, who am I to tell anyone to do anything, I’m here fighting with myself to make a decision to see if I want to pursue a year of uncertainty by traveling and working, or by staying put right here in New York. It’s a tough thing when you’re caught in between wanting to follow your passion and wanting to play it safe. It’s as if you’re letting yourself down by playing it safe because you know that once you keep doing that, the less you’ll think about your passion.
As I’m writing this, my mind drifts back to my all-time favorite book, “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coehlo. Following his personal legend and never giving up, losing everything and working to get it all back in order to make it to his treasure. In particular, when he was employed by the crystal shop owner. The crystal shop owner always dreamed of going to Mecca, but that is all he did. He intended to go, but never did, for reasons that if you read the book, you’ll know why and if you haven’t I won’t say because I don’t want to ruin it. This entire book is playing out in my mind as I’m writing this simply because I’ve finally answered my own question. I’ve had so many people give me advice and tell me to just go ahead and pursue a work and holiday in the country that I’ve chosen, but up until these very moments, all I kept saying was “Yeah” “Maybe” “I don’t know, it’s tough, what if I don’t find a job.”
I always knew reading that book so many times would finally come in handy. I’m very aware of how tough things can be at times and how difficult it can be to start over, but there’s nothing like pursuing something that you love with your whole heart. Granted, you may encounter some bumps in the road, but what matters most is that you’re pursuing the thing that keeps you up at night. You’re going after the dream that you know will no longer be a dream, but will, in fact, become your very reality within a given amount of time. I intend for 2018 and the rest of the years beyond to be ones filled with accomplishments. Accomplishments of my own and not accomplishments for others, meaning going hard for me 24/7 100 percent. I’ve done that for businesses since entering the adulthood workforce, but have yet to find the courage to do that for myself, until now.
I hope that 2018 is successful for all those who like me, have decided to pursue their personal legend and follow their passion. Also, it’s 2018, if you haven’t read “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coehlo then that really needs to be the next book on your reading list. Also, “The Four Agreements” by Don Miguel Ruiz is also a great read.
Read those books, follow your passion, and pursue your personal legend. If it hasn’t come to you yet, then be patient. We all have one, we just have to be patient enough and be ready to go after it once it comes to us.
DON’T IGNORE IT!
